Equipment

  • whisk
  • mixing bowl
  • small storage container
  • parchment paper (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon Diamond Crystal kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon tomato powder optional

Instructions

  • Add all of the ingredients into a bowl and whisk to combine.
  • Transfer leftover seasoning into a jar or storage bag. You can use parchment paper as a funnel to do this.

Notes

1 batch yields 2 Tablespoons, enough to season 1 pound of ground meat or 3 pounds of chicken pieces.
If using Morton kosher salt, reduce the salt volume by half.
To season meat for burrito bowls: Brush with olive oil, then sprinkle over steak, chicken, or pork before grilling or searing. Apply about 2 teaspoons per pound of meat.
To make tacos with ground meat: Brown the meat in a skillet. Add 2 tablespoons per pound of meat and stir in ¼ cup of water. Simmer over medium heat until the water is reduced.
Storage Information
Store taco seasoning in a small airtight jar or zip-top bag at room temperature, away from heat and direct sunlight. Write the date on the container. It's best used within 1 year.
